THE GLOBAL SUCCESS OF CZECH GAMES: THE INFINITE UNIVERSES EXHIBITION WILL BE FEATURED AT THE COMPOSERS SUMMIT PRAGUE 2024 AND ABROAD

Press release, 15th April 2024, Czech Centres

The Czech Centres’ exhibition project dedicated to the contemporary Czech gaming scene is heading to Composers Summit Prague, where it will be part of the accompanying exhibition programme on 18th April 2024 at the Kampus Hybernská. The Infinite Universes – Czech Games and Their Global Success project premiered at the Game Developers Session Prague 2023, a professional conference focused on the gaming industry and is currently on display mainly abroad.

The Infinite Universes – Czech Games and Their Global Success project responds

to relevant industry opportunities, too. In February, the MENT Ljubljana festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia, hosted the exhibition with a focus on game music. It was subsequently launched in the U.S., where the Czech Center New York hosted an evening dedicated to creativity and innovation in the European games industry, following the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and PAX East in Boston.

Anna Hrabáčková, Head of the Cultural Diplomacy Department at the Czech Centres, was at the origin of the idea and says: “The project aims to show the contemporary Czech gaming scene in its diversity and its connection to the international context, in which it excels both at the professional and user level. The curated selection of games tells the story of their creation, themes, creative components and educational focus and, of course, the fact that they have their roots in Czechia.”

In April, the project will be presented at the Composers Summit Prague, focusing on game music, and at the Czech Centre London, where it will be on display until the end of the summer. Further Czech launches will take place at the 2024 Anifilm in Liberec and the Game Access Conference in Brno. The autumn season will include a launch at the Czech Centre Tokyo on the occasion of the Tokyo Game Show. We are planning further cooperation in countries including Bulgaria, Egypt, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain and Taiwan.

“The exhibition, which is part of the opening event Tech Meets Art Lab at Composers Summit Prague, illustrates how attractive gaming is. Since we focus on education and the development of Czech talent, we are happy to be able to collaborate and showcase Czech projects to international audiences. In addition to the Czech Centres and the Bohemia Interactive studio presentation, renowned international companies are also part of the exhibition. This only underlines the level of the Infinite Universes and Czech gaming. We will welcome Steinberg developers, whose software is used by Hans Zimmer, as well as representatives of Native Instruments – probably the largest music software company in the world at the moment. The participants will be able to discuss how to use the tools more effectively for their own work,” says Tomáš Medek, one of the CSP organisers.

Education and Entertainment

The curated selection of the games was based mainly on their content, themes, audiovisual qualities, relation to Czech culture or educational aspects. The collection includes games designed for blind users. The project offers several different design options. It has artistic, professional and educational qualities and was co-created in cooperation with partners from the professional and academic scene, including the Czech Game Developers Association.

Miroslav Žák, the founder of Visiongame, the Archive of Czech and Slovak Developers and Games Visiongame, and the curator of the exhibition, says: “The selection for the exhibition is based on the most successful games currently played by millions of players and large communities around the world. The exhibition also features small or medium-sized projects that are independent and offer an interesting artistic and authorial vision. Visitors can look forward to original titles that can draw gamers into their infinite universes. It will be a unique experience for non-gamers and gaming fans alike.”

Together with Radio Prague International, the Czech Centres have launched a series of 10 short videos featuring interviews with interesting people from the Czech gaming scene. The videos are available on the Czech Centres and RPI websites and social networks.
